Team Spotlight: Lucas, Developer at Deemply

Today, we’re sharing a new profile based on an interview with one of our developers: Lucas. In this article, you’ll discover the journey of our youngest team member at Deemply.

The Birth of a Passion

Lucas began exploring his path in the digital world during his final year of high school. At the time, he was studying for a science-focused BAC with an ISN elective. This course allowed students to discover new technologies and learn the basics of coding. At the same time, he was pursuing his primary passion, soccer, as he was enrolled in a high school in La Roche-sur-Yon that allowed him to balance his studies with a sports program.

When it came time for his BAC, he faced a choice: sports or technology. Seeing that the sports world was quite competitive and that the available career paths didn't suit him, he chose to pursue a BTS SIO degree. During this program, he wanted to see if tech-related careers were truly for him and if they would provide daily professional satisfaction. Over those two years, he felt that working with technology could meet his needs for challenges and skill development, but the highly academic structure of the BTS wasn't particularly suited to his preferences. Lucas needed to work on concrete projects where he could apply his knowledge to see things through from start to finish.

After graduating, he chose to continue his studies at a science university in Angers, and it was during that year that everything clicked!

To wrap up his year and earn his degree, Lucas completed a 4-month internship at Deemply. This internship was the true turning point that revealed his passion for software development. During his months with the company, he completed numerous projects and benefited from the trust of his manager and the leadership team. He was immersed in the professional world, and he loved it!

He was then torn between two passions: his budding interest in digital technology and the one he had always held—soccer.

To fully pursue his dreams, he chose to enroll in a school in the USA for a soccer training program. Unfortunately, Lucas suffered a knee injury at the same time, which prevented him from fulfilling his soccer ambitions.

Jérôme and Stéphane, the two directors at Deemply, offered him the chance to complete his master's degree through a work-study program at the company. He enthusiastically accepted and decided to join EPITECH in Nantes. He chose this school because it offers project-based learning, which perfectly matched his preferences. It allowed him to work on real-world topics without the constraints of a traditional academic setting.

At Deemply, he has driven many developments over the past two years. For example, he worked on the import solution and launched our mobile applications. Here, he finds meaning in his projects; he works on improvements that are useful to our clients, and he knows his work isn't just about getting a grade on an exam. He was given a great deal of trust, just like every other member of the team. His status as an apprentice made no difference within the team. Throughout his two years of training, Lucas felt right at home and learned alongside Alban, the department head.

Building on this experience within the development team, he chose to stay with us in August—to our great delight—by joining the team as a permanent employee.

It was the hands-on practice of his craft that made Lucas fall in love with new technologies and sparked a passion that grows every day. Today, he has become our go-to expert for mobile applications, and we are very proud to have helped pave the way for him.

A Passion That Stays With Us for Life

Lucas is a true soccer enthusiast. He inherited this love for the sport from his father and older brothers, who also played.

He was about 4 years old when he first kicked a ball. Shortly after, he started playing for a club, and his passion grew stronger every day. Things accelerated when he joined the U6 team at his local club. He stayed there until U13, then joined the Les Herbiers team for his U14-U15 season. From U15 to U18, he joined the ESOF club in La Roche-sur-Yon, which allowed him to participate in the sports-study program during his high school years. Little by little, Lucas moved up the ranks and now plays in the N3 group for the Pouzauges club, which he rejoined after his time in the U19 first team.

Despite his injury and Covid-19, his passion remains as strong as ever, and he continues to play for his club several times a week. Now a number 10, he does more than just share his football knowledge with his teammates—he is truly driven by the sport!

Lucas is also a seasoned music lover who played guitar for 7 years. He is very sociable and loves spending time with his friends.

In the office, Lucas brings a great energy to the team. Always smiling and ready to chat, he is genuinely kind to all his colleagues. As the youngest member of the company but one of the longest-serving on the team, he is always happy to share his expertise.
